880,000 yards. 2,640,000 feet. Thirty one miles longer than the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. That is how far I’ve run as of today. In the cold, in the rain, in the dark, in the heat. Getting up at 6:30, 6:15, 6:00, 5:30, and 5:15. Seeing sunrise after glorious sunrise.
I’ve been working on this goal since I started the Couch to 5k program last September. I decided that I worked too hard to stop, so I just kept on going. I ran a 5k race in December and recently ran a 10k race over Memorial Day weekend.
I’ve been tracking my mileage on dailymile and noticed recently that the odometer was going to turn over.
It just so happened that I got up this morning to run a 5k with my wife and we clicked over the mark. When I loaded up the mileage today, I hit the 500 mile mark right on the money (ok, I planned it that way):
But the surprise was when I came home for lunch today. I was greeted with a finish line and a banner signifying the accomplishment
I was given a medal and we had a mini-party with a large chocolate chip cookie.
Tomorrow, I start on the next 500. No rest for the weary…
I am a new runner and I am obsessed. I was so excited when I got to 100 miles. I cannot wait to get to 500! Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks! In the words of Dory from “Finding Nemo”: “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.”
